Letter from Michael Holloway, 26 Nov. 2007 Notification needed

I apologize to all, I was not at the latest community meeting about the Condo development on the south-east corner of Woodbine & Gerrard. I intended to attend but received no notification -- even though I added my name and address to ward representative Sandra Bussin's contact list at the first meeting. I found out about it here, at Woodbine-Gerrard.com, one hour after the meeting ended. I operate a woodworking studio at the location slated for demolition, so it seems likely to me that if I didn't find out about the meeting, many area residents didn't know about it either.

The law requires that these meetings are well publicized in the immediate neighborhood. This appears to be a repeat of the insufficient notification dynamics that surrounded the first meeting. Either city hall is full of bumbling incompetent bureaucrats, or something more nefarious is happening. An informed community acting in its self interest can become a nightmare for the powerful. In some circles, is it best that the neighborhood remains in the dark?

This site might be a good place for some discussion of this situation.

- Am I the exception -- did everyone else receive notification?

- Do you live with-in 400 meters of the re-development?

- Did you receive adequate notification?

- Where did you see the announcement?

Jot down your observations and experiences, e-mail Chris right here at Woodbine-Gerrard.com; maybe we can get a discussion going!

Michael Holloway,
1949 Gerrard Street East.
